In 2011, we added a Class IV Laser unit to our facility, allowing us to offer both laser therapy and surgical laser services.

Laser therapy works by using the body's own healing powers by stimulating your pet's cellular activity. Laser light is delivered to the affected area. The photons (packets of light energy) are sent deep into the tissue, without damaging it. The mitochondria absorbs the photons in each cell and a "photo-bio-modulation" occurs. The light energy, then, jumpstarts the production of ATP in the cell. ATP is the cell's fuel that is needed for growth and repair. Injured cells do not make sufficient ATP. Laser therapy is used to combat this, increased ATP production leads to healthier cells, healthier tissue, and healthier animals. During all of this, your pet will feel a gentle, soothing warmth. Throughout the therapy session, your pet will relax as the pain begins to disappear.
Laser therapy is used as a pain-free, surgery-free, and drug-free treatment option for pain, inflammation, and wounds. The laser is used to treat a variety of injuries including: wounds, fractures, neurological conditions, numerous dermatological problems, pain, and degenerative changes associated with aging.

Because we use unique treatments and protocols for each pet, therapy sessions will vary in time, complexity, and cost. For chronic pain such as arthritis, ask Dr. Wood about our multiple session programs - prices are as low as $15. When appropriate, laser therapy can be used in conjuction with other pain managment plans - reducing the need for prescription drugs.
Typically, even chronic pain can be reduced in as little as 3 treatments. Despite the short treatment sessions, laser therapy treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up to 24 hours after treatment. For some pets, this decrease in pain is felt for up to 2 weeks. Consult with Dr. Wood if you think your pet could benefit from our Laser Therapy Services
