The Importance of Blood Work

 

Every drop of blood literally contains millions of cells that change by the hour. A blood test will determine the health of animal that can not be detected through a physical examination. Many times, pets mask the signs of illnesses until the problem is severe. These tests are crucial in determining vital organ function and are used as a screening tool for senior pets, surgical procedures, sick patients (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.), as well as a baseline for future tests. The results obtained from these tests will influence the type of anesthesia, monitoring, and both pre- and post-op medication. The risk of complications during surgical anesthesia is greatly increased if the pet has an underlying illness that goes undetected.
